ABB e-Mobility entered the electric vehicle charging market in 2010 and has sold over one million chargers in 85 countries and regions, including over 50,000 DC chargers and over one million AC chargers, as well as chargers sold through Connect.

In March 2020, ABB acquired a majority stake of 67% in Shanghai Connect New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. (Shanghai Connect), adding a new business presence in China's electric vehicle charging infrastructure market. The acquisition of Connect will enable ABB to offer more localized products and services in China and capture more business opportunities with OEMs and charging network operators. In January 2022, ABB announced it would increase its majority stake in Shanghai Chargedot to 80%. This increase is part of ABB's e-mobility expansion strategy and will further strengthen ABB's market position in China's rapidly growing e-mobility sector. With this investment, ABB will become one of Shanghai Chargedot's two largest shareholders. The other shareholder is SAIC Anyue Charging Technology Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of SAIC Motor, which holds a 20% stake in Shanghai Chargedot.
